PRESENTING: Festival section ROOTS

The A-FilmTeens festival presents the thematic section ROOTS, which brings a diverse mosaic of stories from history, literature and civic education. Through documentary and animated films, we will delve into the lives of important personalities, forgotten chapters of history and literary works that take on a new cinematic dimension. This section is suitable for young viewers aged 8 and up and offers an engaging look at the past from different angles.

THE UNKNOW WELL-KNOWN
In this section you can enjoy a series of short films dedicated to historical figures who have influenced the world and whose names are not always known to the wider public.

Marcel Marceau
Who was Marcel Marceau and how is he connected to Kolín? A short animated documentary about the life of one of the most important mimes in history.

John Logie Baird, inventor of Television
We know the inventor of the radio and the light bulb, but who was behind television? This film reveals the story of John Logie Baird, the man who made television a part of our lives.

Gallery of Composers
Do you know famous composers by their faces? This film quiz combines world-famous melodies with animated portraits of their composers.

First Governor
A short animated film about Imrich Karvaš, the first governor of the National Bank of Slovakia, whose name is indelibly etched in history.



PERSONAL HISTORY
The films in this thematic block present personal testimonies of Czech survivors and show how great history influences individual destinies.

Ma Bisteren
A stylized animated documentary about the life of Roma activist Čenek Růžička and his family depicts the pre-war and post-war nomadic life of Czech Roma.

Brunka
An intimate remembrance of a beloved grandmother that uses animation to tell a personal story full of emotions and family ties.

Hair
Zdeněk Hejduk, rocker, photographer and cultural organiser, tells what long hair meant under communism and how it became a symbol of defiance.

Films about little-known but important chapters of Czech history, seen through the eyes of children.

The Walnut Trees Behind Our School
How are walnut trees and World War II related? This short animated documentary recalls the legacy of burnt Lidice and how to preserve its heritage.

The first one thousand metres
